My role is to support my clients and their families in fulfilling their philanthropic ambitions and journey.

Did you know the word “philanthropy” comes from the Greek words “philos” meaning “love” and “anthropos” meaning "humanity”. Philanthropy simply means “love of humanity.”

Philanthropy advisor

Jason Williams

Start by telling me a bit about yourself and what help you're looking for.

I look forward to hearing about your philanthropic ambitions.

Kindest regards,

Jason

My first experience of philanthropy came after studying entrepreneurship at university and working for Motivation Charitable Trust. My role was to develop new sustainable income streams that would help the charity in its mission but also generate vital unrestricted income. A generous philanthropist gave the funding to produce a racing wheelchair, which we launched at the London 2012 Paralympic games and has since enabled thousands of people with disabilities all over the world to participate in sport.

During this time, I campaigned on issues such as the eradication of polio, also championed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Huge donations made by such foundations showed me the important role philanthropy has in changing the world. Without philanthropic support from the Joffe Charitable Trust it wouldn't have been possible for me to grow the South West International Development Network and structure it as a registered charity, to support hundreds of other organisations delivering the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

For several years now, I have been running my own venture with the goal of helping hundreds of different charities benefit from Google's philanthropic offering, the Google Ad Grants programme. During this time I have worked closely with the CEOs of many different charities.

I founded Smart Philanthropy because most people who are new to philanthropy really want someone to talk to about their ambitions, but they also need someone they can work with to put their dreams into action and get things done. My ambition is to help others realise their potential to be a force for good in this world and experience the happiness philanthropy can bring to their lives.

My Journey

  • Get you excited about your philanthropy journey.

  • Push you to pursue what you are passionate about.

  • Encourage you to be brave but smart with your donations.

  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity and professionalism with whomever I’m working with.

  • Be a good listener.

  • Be a critical friend.

  • Support and facilitate communication among your friends, families and the causes you support.

  • Come up with smart, creative and impactful solutions.

  • To share subject-matter expertise and connect you with others when I have shortcomings.

  • Seek and explore partnerships that I think would be beneficial to your philanthropy strategy.

  • Make you proud to call yourself a philanthropist.

My commitment to you:

I live in Bristol and enjoy travelling, weekends away in my campervan with friends and going to music festivals. In my spare time I play tennis and organise one of Bristol's best stand-up comedy nights.

About me

  • I volunteer my time with a local charity, mentoring young people, and I am part of a committee helping improve one of the most deprived wards in the UK.

  • I donate blood.

  • I donate money to charities on a regular basis.

  • I make ethical decisions about the products and services I use. e.g I don’t have savings or a mortgage with a bank that funds fossil fuels.

  • I regularly provide my digital marketing expertise to charities pro bono.
